My approach to painting
basically explores blending
contemporary representational
imagery with the abstract.
The goal is to visually merge the
best qualities of both styles by
utilizing a mix of media, texture,
color, and strong composition
– to capture the sense of a
place in time through its color
and light, rather than just
“rendering” a specific location.
I try to use powerful brushwork
and bold color relationships to
create complex organic textures.
I work with encaustic, oil, and
acrylics, often combining them,
to achieve unique, vibrant,
translucent surfaces with strong
graphic qualities that engage
viewers. I like the idea of visually
stimulating a persons curiosity –
to get close, touch and feel the
surfaces, become emotionally
connected with the work in an
almost physical way as well as a
visually satisfying one.
