Amy received her formal art training at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, graduating with a B.F.A. in Drawing and Painting. Before graduation and after, she pursued her interest in the theatre doing scenic design, mask making and set painting—often creating large paintings for backdrops. “I love the feeling of creating whole worlds and environments to immerse myself in, creating new places where nature and color are players in my imagination”.
Eventually, Amy began creating art for the printed page, pursuing opportunities in graphic design, art direction, and illustration. Graphic Arts Monthly, Digital Design & Production, I/O (Input/Output) Magazine, Interior Design Magazine, Allure, American Baby, Modern Bride Magazine, Discover Magazine, New Canaan Darien Magazine, Tiffany & Co. and Nobleworks Inc. (a greeting card company) are some of the publications and clients who have published her art work. “Exposure to the computer through the publishing industry opened up a whole new medium for me. Utilizing my background in both traditional and digital art is an exciting merging of worlds. Working on the computer is not just a matter of pushing a button—I still physically render each stroke with a stylus, but I like the plasticity it affords; the freeing feeling of being able to try different things without worrying about harming what has come before—it can easily be undone, or the ability to quickly try out different variations. I like the language and texture of traditional art mediums and don’t want my work to read solely as a “computerized image.” I create my pieces entirely on the computer from sketch to finish; the “original” only existing as light and electricity; the final results are printed as archival quality giclée prints in limited editions.” Amy currently resides in Ridgefield, CT |
